GOOD IDEA Sign the Petition to Establish a “Secretary of the Arts”

January 30th, 2009

To: President Barack Obama

Congratulations and thank you for all you do.

Your good friend Quincy Jones said: “…next conversation I have with President Obama is to beg for a Secretary of Arts.”[November 14th 2008 WNYC interview by John Schaefer on "Soundcheck."]

We the undersigned support Quincy Jones’ plea.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

I added my name and left this comment:

“Art education is not about elitist thinking, or tu-tu dancing. It’s about jobs. Walk the aisle of any grocery store in America, drive the streets and look at signs, listen to any presentation given in a conference room – or for that matter any one of the dozens of radio stations on your car radio whilst you drive. The arts are about jobs. People who design packaging, business signs and cards, the interface for programs on your computer, the lay-out of your store and office, help the CEO give a speech and help the nation see, hear and read about important things. The arts and arts education are about jobs – and joy. Don’t forget the joy.” ~BLM
