a random blog post about evacuating New Orleans. Again.

August 30th, 2008

I just happened upon this posting online and found the words haunting. The writer identifies herself as DomandGabesmom, evidently a resident of New Orleans and survivor of the hurricane Katrina which devastated the city a few years ago – the post features a weather map illustrating the progress of hurricane Gustav toward New Orleans. Note the time of the post.

Hurricane Gustav

NOAA Westher map of Hurrican Gustav as it bares down on New Orleans

Well I know I haven’t posted in a long time and I’m not sure who might or might not still read this blog. We are evacuating New Orleans tomorrow morning. We’ll be heading up to Northern Alabama to wait until Gustav passes. If we can come back, we will. If not, the plan is to head out west. Literally. We’ll be heading back to California to start over at least until it’s safe for us to come back. Clinton is really set on coming back to rebuild. I am honestly not. He is an electrician though so these hurricanes keep him working. Anyway, if you’re still reading, please keep us in your prayers. I will try to update again in a few days and let people know if we are coming back or heading to Cali.

Grass Fed Beef
A re-post from Epicurious.com

This story was posted on Epicurious.com. I found it interesting and re-post it here for your convenience. Part of the article was a re-posted video from the Wall Street Journal…very much worth your a look.

The Great Debate: Corn-Fed vs. Grass-Fed Beef by Ethan Book

“Yesterday I wrote about the rising costs of raising pigs, but what does it cost to raise cattle? Above is a short video from the Wall Street Journal that has been making the rounds this summer. It is only three-and-a-half minutes long, and I really encourage you to watch it if you have the time. Although I don’t agree with everything in the video (I do think it is quite possible to profit from grass-fed cattle), there is a lot of great information in there. Keep reading for a few things you must watch for in the video.

Thing #1: Cattle are fed M&M’s!? Well, not” [link]
